Description

Barbaresco Gaiun Martinenga 2016 Marchesi di Grésy

The Barbaresco Gaiun Martinenga 2016 is one of the most powerful and structured expressions of Nebbiolo from Marchesi di Grésy, sourced from the Gaiun parcel—the southernmost and warmest section of the renowned Martinenga cru.

Facing the celebrated Rabajà vineyard, Gaiun yields grapes of impressive ripeness and aromatic intensity, with a soil rich in calcareous marl and a microclimate that favors depth and power.

Vinification involves stainless steel fermentation with long maceration, followed by 12 months in French oak barriques, then another 12 months in large Slavonian oak casks, and extended bottle aging.

The 2016 vintage delivers a wine of outstanding balance and complexity. On the nose: ripe red fruits, rose petals, sweet spices, licorice, cedar, and hints of tobacco. The palate is full-bodied yet refined, with silky tannins and great length, offering both immediate pleasure and exceptional cellaring potential.

Gaiun is a muscular and intense Barbaresco, closer in structure to a Barolo, and a true collector’s wine for those who love bold but elegant Nebbiolo.

MARCHESI DI GRESY

Marchesi di Grésy is one of Piedmont’s most enchanting historic wineries, blending tradition, terroir and restraint with subtle elegance. Since 1797, the family has been the sole owners of the Martinenga cru — a natural amphitheater at the heart of Barbaresco — making it one of Italy’s rare vineyard monopoles.
