Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore Pojega Magnum 2019 Guerrieri Rizzardi
The Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore Pojega Magnum is an authentic expression of Valpolicella winemaking, produced by Guerrieri Rizzardi in the heart of the Classico area. The “ripasso” method, a hallmark of the region, consists of re-fermenting Valpolicella wine on the dried Amarone pomace, enriching the wine with greater body, depth and aromatic complexity. This unique process gives the Ripasso its distinctive style, positioned between the freshness of Valpolicella and the powerful structure of Amarone.
The Pojega is made from Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Merlot, grown on clay-sandy soils with a medium limestone content in the historic family estate dating back to 1649. After manual harvesting and careful grape selection, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel for about 10 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. Months later, the wine undergoes re-fermentation on Amarone pomace, enhancing its complexity. It then matures for 12 months in French and European oak tonneaux and casks, with part aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness and balance.
In the glass, this Ripasso offers a generous bouquet of ripe cherries, plums and blackberries, enriched by spicy notes and hints of toasted wood. On the palate it is dense, velvety and well-structured, with smooth tannins and a lingering finish. The Magnum format enhances its aging potential, allowing it to evolve gracefully for up to 5 years. A versatile and refined red wine, perfect with roasted beef or veal, game dishes, stews and mature cheeses, but also a surprising companion for more modern pairings such as beef tartare or spiced dishes.
