Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos Oremus
The Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos by Oremus is one of Hungary’s most iconic wines and a benchmark among the world’s greatest sweet wines. It originates from the Tokaj region, the country’s oldest wine area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its volcanic soils and unique microclimate that favor the development of Botrytis cinerea, the noble rot.
Produced from a blend of Furmint, Hárslevelü, Zéta, and Sárgamuskotály, this wine is made through a meticulous and time-honored process. The botrytized grapes are hand-harvested and turned into a thick paste known as Aszú, which is then added to a base wine or must from healthy grapes inside the traditional 136-liter gònc barrels. The sweetness level depends on the number of puttonyos (baskets of Aszú paste) added; the 3 Puttonyos version delivers the perfect harmony between richness, freshness, and finesse.
Aging takes place in small oak barrels for two to three years, during which another mold, Cladosporium cellare, naturally influences the wine, imparting delicate oxidative and nutty tones. The wine is then further aged in bottle for one year, refining its complex bouquet and velvety texture.
In the glass, it shines with a bright golden hue. The nose reveals elegant aromas of honey, apricot, orange zest, and sweet spices, while the palate is silky, fresh and vibrant, with a balanced interplay between sweetness and lively acidity. The finish is long and persistent. Perfect with blue cheeses, foie gras, or nut-based desserts, this Oremus Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos is also a meditative wine of remarkable depth and grace.
