Poliphemo 2015 Luigi Tecce
The 2015 "Poliphemo Riserva" is a natural wine from Campania produced by Luigi Tecce. It is made from pure Aglianico grapes, from vines over 80 years old that grow on calcareous clay soil. In the vineyard, no chemical or synthetic substances are used in any way, but only a little copper and sulphur.
In the cellar, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and 40 days' maceration on the skins in open chestnut vats are carried out. The wine then matures for 10 months in steel and 24 months in tonneaux and large casks, before being bottled without filtration or clarification. The "Poliphemo Vecchie Vigne" Taurasi Riserva shows in the glass a deep ruby red colour with garnet hues.
The nose takes a little time to open up and express its potential, initially it seems a little closed but then begins to give complex aromas of plum, bitter cocoa, underbrush and black pepper. The taste is deep, very tannic but balanced by a lovely softness, incredibly persistent.
