The story of Malvirà began in the 1950s, when Giuseppe Damonte founded his family winery in Canale, in the heart of the Roero hills. His dream was to bottle the essence of his beloved land, sip after sip. In the 1970s, the winery took the name “Malvirà” from the old family house, distinguished by its unusual north-facing courtyard, a peculiarity that gave birth to the name itself. In 1989, Malvirà moved to its current site beneath the S.S. Trinità vineyard, later expanded to meet the needs of a growing and innovative winery.

Under the guidance of Massimo and Roberto Damonte, the second generation, Malvirà strengthened its identity, producing wines that are refined, balanced, and deeply tied to the Roero. Their vineyards, devoted mainly to Arneis and Nebbiolo, express the great diversity of soils and exposures that define this part of Piedmont.

A symbol of the estate is its impressive wine library, holding more than 20 vintages that showcase the aging potential and elegance of Roero wines. Malvirà’s visual identity is also unique: its labels are inspired by Piedmontese tarot cards, with the Wheel of Fortune—representing balance and destiny—becoming both a label motif and the winery’s logo.

Today, the third generation – Giacomo, Francesco, Pietro, and Lucia – continues the family’s vision, guided by tradition, respect for nature, and dedication to excellence. The wines of Malvirà stand as an authentic and elegant expression of the Roero, a land of sandy hills, marine fossils, and timeless beauty.
