LOUIS BROCHET
The story of Maison Louis Brochet begins in the 19th century in Écueil, a Premier Cru village in the Montagne de Reims, one of Champagne’s most Pinot Noir-driven terroirs. Here, the Brochet family has cultivated vines and produced Champagne for four generations, working as independent récoltant-manipulants who oversee every stage of production, from vineyard management to bottling.
The foundation of this legacy lies with Marie Arsène Brochet, who pioneered a meticulous selection of vine stocks in the vineyard, marking the best plants by hand. Only vines consistently selected over three consecutive years were propagated through massal selection, a method that shaped the distinctive character of the Pinot Noir d’Écueil, today the cornerstone of the estate, representing the majority of its production.
Her dedication was passed to Louis Brochet, born in 1881, who transformed the family activity by creating the first Champagne label bearing the family name. This marked a turning point in establishing a true brand identity, later honoured in 2011 when the domaine officially adopted his name.
The next generations, Henri Brochet and the Brochet-Hervieux era, structured the commercial development of the estate while preserving its artisanal foundation. Later, Alain Brochet continued to refine the balance between tradition and modernity, passing his expertise to his children.
Today, Hélène and Louis Brochet lead the estate, representing its most contemporary chapter. Hélène focuses on communication and international development, while Louis, an oenologist, oversees winemaking and blending. Since 2013, they have worked together to preserve family heritage while adapting the domaine to modern expectations and global markets.
The vineyard extends over approximately 13 hectares divided into 50 plots, mainly in Écueil and surrounding areas, enriched by recent acquisitions that enhance soil diversity. Viticulture is conducted with a strong environmental commitment, reducing chemical inputs and favouring organic fertilisation and sustainable soil management.
The estate is certified Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne and HVE (High Environmental Value), reflecting a long-term dedication to environmental balance and biodiversity preservation. Every stage of production is carried out on-site, ensuring full control and stylistic consistency.
Wines are aged for a minimum of 24 to 36 months, with extended ageing reserved for the most complex cuvées. Blending, personally supervised by Louis Brochet, focuses on achieving balance between grape varieties and vintages, shaping a style defined by precision, clarity and terroir expression.
The result is a Champagne house that bridges deep-rooted heritage with a modern sensibility: precise, restrained and terroir-driven Champagnes that reflect the identity of Écueil with remarkable consistency.
