Franck Balthazar is widely recognized as one of the finest producers in Cornas, Northern Rhône. In 2002, he left his engineering career to take over the family estate, originally founded in 1931 by his grandfather Casimir. Since then, he has expanded the domaine to 3.5 hectares, including prized plots like Chaillot with 50+ year-old vines and century-old Petit Syrah vines inherited from the legendary Noël Verset.

Balthazar adheres to old-school methods in both vineyard and cellar. He plows the steep granite slopes with a horse and vinifies with whole-cluster fermentation, aging his wines in traditional 600-liter demi-muids. His low-intervention philosophy allows for the clearest expression of the Cornas terroir. The resulting Syrah wines are elegant, complex, and deeply mineral, capturing the essence of this historic appellation.
