MoreDomaine de la Tour Penet is located in Péronne, in the heart of the Mâconnais, one of southern Burgundy's most characteristic regions for Chardonnay. The estate encompasses approximately 11 hectares of vineyards on limestone-rich slopes surrounding a historic château. The property has belonged to the Ferret family since 1872, when François Ferret purchased it from Monsieur de Contenson. Before becoming part of the family's winemaking heritage, the château had belonged to the celebrated French poet Alphonse de Lamartine, adding a literary dimension to its history.
A central figure in the domaine's modern development is Anne Ramonet, daughter of Guy Ferret and former wife of Jean-Claude Ramonet, the renowned winemaker from Chassagne-Montrachet. Drawing on her winemaking education and experience, Anne helped transform the family business from a grape supplier into an estate producing wines under its own name. Today, Paul and Louis Janin represent a new generation involved in the property's future.
The vineyards are rooted in predominantly limestone soils and include mature Chardonnay vines, some reaching approximately eighty years of age. Chardonnay forms the foundation of the estate's production, alongside a smaller proportion of Gamay used for red wines. Hand harvesting and careful attention to fruit quality remain important aspects of the vineyard work.
In the cellar, winemaking varies according to the cuvée, with stainless steel and oak barrels, including previously used casks, employed to develop texture and complexity while preserving varietal expression. The range includes Mâcon-Péronne, Vieilles Vignes and Cuvée 1872, the latter named in honour of the estate's historic origins.
The wines of Domaine de la Tour Penet express the character of the Mâconnais through fruit purity, balance and freshness, combining the generous nature of southern Burgundy Chardonnay with a precise, measured approach to winemaking.
