Cantine Dei is a historic Tuscan estate nestled in Montepulciano, producing authentic Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. Established in 1964, the winery combines tradition, architectural elegance in travertine, and a deep commitment to sustainability. With estate vineyards across five distinctive cru (Bossona, Martiena, La Piaggia, La Ciarliana, Cervognano), Cantine Dei crafts expressive, terroir-driven wines showcasing the soul of Montepulciano.

Cantine Dei was founded in 1964 when Alibrando Dei purchased the Bossona estate, planting his first vineyards on land uniquely suited to crafting high-quality red wines  . In the 1970s, the family expanded by acquiring Villa Martiena and its surrounding vineyards. By 1985, during an exceptional harvest, the first Vino Nobile di Montepulciano bearing the Dei family name was released.

The artistic soul of the estate unfolds through its travertine architecture, meticulously designed by the winery’s patriarch, Glauco Dei. Built into the rolling Tuscan hillside, the cellar is accessed via a descending travertine spiral—a tribute to the fossilized shells in the Bossona soil—and features an impressive cassettoni ceiling supported by columns, merging modern minimalism with classical grace.

Cantine Dei’s vineyards span five distinct parcels—Martiena, La Piaggia, Bossona, La Ciarliana, and Cervognano—each offering unique terroir nuances that define their wines. The soils vary from sandy-clay and fossil-rich tufa to clay-limestone mixtures, enabling Cantine Dei to express the full spectrum of Vino Nobile DOCG, including the prestige of Riserva Bossona and Madonna della Querce.

Viticulture at Cantine Dei is guided by principles of sustainability and biodiversity. The estate practices minimal tilling, operates with no herbicides, and uses organic fertilisers and cover crops—such as barley, mustard, clover, and oats—to enrich the soil naturally. This respectful approach nurtures the land and translates into wines with genuine terroir expression.

The winery’s rack is gravity-fed, preserving grape integrity throughout the winemaking process. Fermentations are carefully monitored, followed by maturation in Slavonian oak casks and French barrels appropriate to each cuvée. This method balances tradition and innovation, aiming to let each vineyard’s personality shine through.

Today, under the artistic guidance of Caterina Dei, the estate blends the legacy of her family with a creative and contemporary vision. Her background in music infuses an artistic sensibility into winery hospitality, where visitors enjoy immersive experiences in an architectural setting that marries wine, art and culture.
