BRUNNENHOF
The Brunnenhof Estate is one of the most authentic wineries in South Tyrol, nestled in the rolling hills of Mazzon, a terroir historically recognized as the best site for Pinot Noir in the southern Tyrol. The vineyards, located between 300 and 450 meters above sea level, enjoy exceptional natural conditions: sandy-loam soils rich in clay and limestone, ideal exposures on the left bank of the Adige River, and the protection of the Prato del Re ridge, which provides shade in the morning and enhances the thermal excursion, key to aromatic finesse and elegance.
Pinot Noir, first introduced to Mazzon more than a century ago by Ludwig von Barth of Barthenau, has become the signature grape of the area. The Rottensteiner family, who has been vinifying this variety for almost a hundred years, established Brunnenhof in 1987 and, since 1999, has been producing directly from this estate. Today, the winery crafts several outstanding labels: a classic Pinot Noir and two Riservas (all Alto Adige DOC), as well as local specialties like Lagrein, Gewürztraminer, and the unique Manzoni Bianco “Eva”, always vinified in purity to express the full potential of each grape.
Brunnenhof’s philosophy is based on respect for nature and terroir: in the vineyard, the use of chemical treatments is avoided, relying instead on sustainable farming practices that allow the vines to fully reflect the vintage. In the cellar, tradition meets innovation, combining a century of know-how with modern techniques that preserve purity, balance, and longevity in the wines.
Today, Brunnenhof stands as a true ambassador of Mazzon Pinot Noir and of South Tyrol’s winemaking tradition, producing wines that are both authentic and refined, and that tell the story of their land with every sip.
