Domaine Benoit Badoz is one of the most authentic and historic estates of the Jura wine region in France, with a family tradition dating back to 1659. For ten generations, the Badoz family has cultivated vineyards around Poligny, working a unique mosaic of soils including marl, limestone, schist and layered clay. Today Benoit Badoz combines organic viticulture, biodiversity preservation and precise winemaking to create distinctive wines from Jura’s traditional grape varieties: Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir. A benchmark estate where heritage, sustainability and terroir expression meet.
MoreLocated in the historic town of Poligny, in the heart of the Jura wine region, Domaine Benoit Badoz is one of the most respected family estates dedicated to preserving the authentic identity of Jura wines. The Badoz family’s connection with vineyards goes back centuries, with municipal archives documenting generations of winemakers who have cultivated the land since 1659.
Today, Benoit Badoz represents the tenth generation of this family tradition. After gaining experience in renowned wine regions, he took over the family estate in 2003 with a clear ambition: to produce wines that faithfully express the character of Jura’s exceptional terroirs while respecting nature and traditional craftsmanship.
The estate’s vineyards are located on the slopes surrounding Poligny, particularly in the prestigious Les Roussots and Les Grands Roussots plots. These vineyards benefit from a remarkable geological diversity, with soils composed of Lias marl, limestone, schist and layered clay formations. Each grape variety is planted according to the characteristics of its ideal terroir: Savagnin and Poulsard thrive on blue marl soils, Trousseau and Pinot Noir on red marl, while Chardonnay expresses its elegance and minerality on layered clay.
The Domaine follows a certified organic farming approach, focused on long-term sustainability and respect for vineyard ecosystems. Mechanical soil work, green manure and cover crops between vine rows help preserve soil vitality, retain moisture and encourage biodiversity. Every decision reflects a commitment to protecting the vineyard for future generations.
Benoit Badoz combines traditional knowledge with modern innovation. Alongside ancestral vineyard practices, the Domaine uses advanced solutions such as the Vitibot autonomous electric robot, allowing gentle soil work with reduced environmental impact and lower carbon emissions.
In the winery, precision and simplicity define the approach. Modern stainless steel tanks allow accurate temperature control and careful maceration, while avoiding unnecessary intervention. The most important cuvées are aged in historic underground stone cellars located in the heart of Poligny, where natural humidity and temperature variations create ideal conditions for slow and complex maturation.
These cellars are home to some of the estate’s most iconic wines, including Vin Jaune, Vin de Paille and Tradition cuvées, as well as more contemporary Chardonnay and Savagnin expressions aged in a topped-up style. Oak selection is also a key part of the Domaine’s philosophy, with barrels sourced from prestigious French forests and chosen according to each wine’s personality.
The wines of Domaine Benoit Badoz are authentic expressions of Jura: mineral, precise and full of character. They combine centuries of family heritage with a modern sustainable vision, offering a unique interpretation of one of France’s most fascinating wine regions.
