The Nuits-Saint-Georges “Les Damodes” 2023 from Domaine Ballorin comes from a micro-parcel located in the prestigious lieu-dit Les Damodes, at the northern edge of Nuits-Saint-Georges, close to the border with Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard sits near the top of the slope, in a position that plays a crucial role in shaping the wine’s identity.
One of the defining features of this climat is the woodland bordering the vineyard on its western side, which creates cool nocturnal air flows. These fresh night breezes moderate temperatures, slow down ripening and preserve natural acidity, aromatic precision and elegance. The result is a wine with exceptional tension and freshness, unusual for a Village-level Nuits-Saint-Georges.
On the nose, “Les Damodes” reveals a refined and complex aromatic profile, combining spicy notes with vibrant aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry and red berries, followed by subtle earthy nuances. The palate is fresh, poised and harmonious, supported by a bright acidic backbone and youthful yet well-shaped tannins, offering excellent ageing potential.
Vinification is carried out with great respect for the terroir: destemming, spontaneous maceration and fermentation in concrete and fiberglass tanks, followed by 12 months ageing on fine lees in new oak barrels. This careful, artisanal approach enhances the expression of this true vin de lieu, deeply connected to its origin.
