Lessona 2019 Villa Guelpa
The Lessona 2019 by Villa Guelpa is one of the most elegant and genuine interpretations of Nebbiolo from Alto Piemonte. It comes from vineyards located at 340 meters above sea level in Lessona, an area known for its sandy and volcanic soils rich in clay and gravel. These unique conditions lend the wine finesse, tension, and a signature mineral character that distinguishes the best Nebbiolos from northern Piedmont.
The 2019 vintage was marked by weather contrasts — a warm winter, a cold May, and a hot June with occasional rain. Despite these challenges, the harvest produced grapes of excellent quality, picked by hand on October 17th in small crates to preserve their integrity.
In the cellar, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with a 12-day maceration on the skins, followed by 24 months of aging in Slavonian oak tonneaux and further bottle refinement. The resulting wine shows a bright ruby red color and a complex bouquet of flowers, ripe cherry, spice, and subtle mineral notes.
On the palate, it is savory, full-bodied, and finely balanced, with vibrant acidity and well-integrated tannins that promise great longevity. Villa Guelpa’s Lessona 2019 captures the soul of the Alto Piemonte terroir, offering elegance, depth, and the unmistakable grace of a world-class Nebbiolo.
