Description

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques 2016 Armand Rousseau

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques 2016 is a fine Burgundy wine produced by Domaine Armand Rousseau. The Pinot Noir grapes come from the renowned 1er Cru Clos St Jacques, a vineyard that has all the characteristics to be a Grand Cru.

In the 1930s, when the INAO defined the appellations, it decided that only vineyards directly touching the vineyard boundaries of Chambertin and Clos de Beze could be designated as Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin, and Clos Saint-Jacques received (unjustly) the Premier Cru designation because of its remote location. The vineyard covers a total of 6.7 hectares with five strips, which are owned by five different producers, including Domaine Armand Rousseau, which owns 2.20 hectares.

The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques 2016 shows an intense bright ruby red colour. The nose expresses a complex bouquet of small red fruits, floral notes against a spicy and mineral background. The sip is elegant, with a long savoury finish.

ARMAND ROUSSEAU

Domaine Armand Rousseau is a highly prestigious entity in Burgundy, producing wines of incredible quality. The estate is based in the village of Gevrey Chambertin and manages 15 hectares of vineyards, 8.5 of which are in the Grand Cru Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Charmes-Chambertin, Ruchottes-Chambertin, Mazy-Chambertin and Clos de la Roche. The vineyards, planted mainly with pinot noir, have an average age of 45 years and are worked in such a way as to minimise yields, while vinification is very traditional, respecting the winery's style which has been handed down from generation to generation.
