Champagne Cuvée 746 Extra Brut Magnum Jacquesson
Jacquesson Champagne Cuvée 746 Extra Brut Magnum perfectly embodies the philosophy that has made this historic Maison one of the most respected names among Champagne enthusiasts worldwide. The numbered cuvées, introduced by Jacquesson in 2000, are not simply different versions of the same wine, but rather unique interpretations of each vintage, created to express the finest possible balance between terroir, grapes and ageing.
The Cuvée 746 was crafted to reveal the identity of the outstanding 2018 vintage, a year that produced wines with remarkable maturity, richness and balance. The blend is based primarily on wines from the 2018 harvest, sourced from some of the most prestigious areas of Champagne: Aÿ, Dizy and Hautvillers in the Grande Vallée de la Marne, which represent around 68% of the blend, together with the Grand Cru villages of Avize and Oiry in the Côte des Blancs, accounting for the remaining 32%.
Around 30% of the final blend is composed of reserve wines from previous Jacquesson numbered cuvées, from series 733 to 745, carefully aged in large oak foudres. This approach adds complexity, depth and continuity while preserving the distinctive identity of each harvest.
The 2018 vintage was marked by a particularly rainy winter and a challenging spring, followed by a warm and dry summer that allowed the grapes to reach excellent maturity while maintaining a healthy balance. Harvest took place from August 30th to September 11th, producing perfectly ripe grapes with excellent sanitary conditions and moderate acidity.
Jacquesson’s winemaking philosophy is based on precision, patience and minimal intervention. Only the tête de cuvée is used, with fermentation taking place mainly in large 42-hectolitre oak barrels. The wine undergoes natural malolactic fermentation and bâtonnage on fine lees, allowing greater texture and complexity. No filtration, fining or unnecessary intervention is applied, allowing the wine to clarify naturally over time. After more than three years of ageing on the lees, disgorgement took place in October 2022, with an Extra Brut dosage of only 2 g/l, preserving the purity and energy of the cuvée.
The Magnum format further enhances the Champagne’s evolution, allowing a slower and more harmonious development of aromas and structure.
In the glass, Cuvée 746 shows a brilliant golden colour with an extremely fine and persistent mousse. The aromatic profile is complex and layered, opening with fresh citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon, alongside yellow fruit, white peach and orchard fruit. With time, elegant nuances of toasted almonds, sweet spices, aromatic herbs, acacia honey, melted alpine butter and subtle balsamic sensations emerge, together with a distinctive chalky minerality.
On the palate, this Champagne is generous yet perfectly balanced. The texture is creamy and refined, supported by a lively acidity and a remarkable saline freshness. The mineral tension provides energy and precision throughout the tasting, while the long finish reveals delicate grapefruit bitterness and a persistent, elegant freshness.
A Champagne of exceptional class and gastronomic versatility, perfect with oysters, shellfish, caviar, lobster, langoustines, refined seafood dishes, grilled fish, white meats and mature soft cheeses. Thanks to its structure and complexity, it is also a Champagne with outstanding ageing potential, capable of evolving beautifully for many years.
