Description

Chambolle Musigny 2012 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod

The Chambolle-Musigny 2012 by Ghislaine Barthod is an extraordinary example of Pinot Noir from the renowned Burgundy region, specifically from the village of Chambolle-Musigny. This refined red wine results from a meticulous selection of grapes cultivated in 13 different parcels, covering a total of 1.5 hectares. Among these parcels are old vines from Aux Croix and Les Herbues, along with a micro-parcel of only 0.07 hectares in Premier Cru Les Sentiers, too small to be vinified separately.

The Domaine Ghislaine Barthod follows a philosophy of minimal intervention both in the vineyard and the cellar, avoiding the use of chemical products to preserve the purity of the grapes and the health of the soil. The grapes are partially destemmed before pressing. Fermentation occurs in steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts, favoring a slower start that allows for a pre-fermentation maceration of a few days, followed by another maceration of about 20 days. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to small oak barrels, about 20-25% of which are new, for an aging period of about 20 months.

In the glass, the Chambolle-Musigny 2012 presents a bright ruby red color. On the nose, it reveals complex and seductive aromas of plum, violet, and blueberry, accompanied by a subtle minerality. On the palate, it is a structured, medium-bodied wine. While it may seem less elegant in its early years, with a few years of bottle aging, it reaches an exceptional level of complexity and refinement.
