Bramaterra “I Porfidi” 2007 Tenuta Sella
The Bramaterra “I Porfidi” 2007 is produced by Tenuta Sella, one of the historic benchmarks of Alto Piemonte. The vineyards are located on hillsides with South-West exposure, planted on ancient volcanic porphyry soils that give the wine tension, minerality and remarkable aging potential. The vines average 50 years of age and are trained in classic Guyot, ensuring balanced yields and concentration.
The traditional blend of Bramaterra combines Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Croatina. Winemaking begins with strict vineyard selection followed by sorting in the cellar, destemming and crushing. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with pump-overs and délestage. Average maceration lasts 31 days for Nebbiolo and Vespolina, and 19 days for Croatina. Malolactic fermentation is carried out using the co-inoculation technique, enhancing integration and stability.
Aging is long and structured: 24 months in 25 hl Slavonian oak casks, followed by 12 months in Allier oak barriques. This dual maturation refines the tannic structure while preserving varietal precision and territorial character.
On the nose it reveals ripe red berries, dried violet, dark spices and graphite, supported by a pronounced mineral backbone. The palate is firm and vertical, with dense tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, layered finish.
Its aging potential exceeds 30 years, making it a compelling choice for collectors and lovers of structured, terroir-driven Piedmont reds.
