Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits 2021 by Petit Roy is a sublime expression of Pinot Noir cultivated on clay, limestone, and marl soils at high altitudes. This unique terroir combination endows the wine with distinctive complexity and elegance, fully embodying the character of its origin.
Pinot Noir grapes undergo careful selection and are subjected to a 3-day cold maceration followed by 3-4 weeks of whole-cluster maceration. This extraction process delicately draws out the precious aromas and tannins from the grape skins, contributing to the structure and complexity of the final wine.
Following vinification, the wine is aged in used barrels for 12 months, then left to stabilize in tanks for an additional 8 months. Importantly, throughout the entire production process, no clarifying agents or filtration are used, preserving the wine's natural characteristics. Additionally, only a minimal amount of sulfur dioxide is employed, ensuring the purity and authenticity of the final product.
Upon tasting, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits by Petit Roy distinguishes itself with extraordinary purity and refinement. The olfactory bouquet is surprisingly clean and polished, featuring succulent grape stems, tea leaves, plum, black cardamom, blackberry, black pepper, and a hint of tamarind - an elegant, complex, and ultimately vibrant perfume. Over time, nuances of black roses and salt emerge.
On the palate, this wine reveals impeccable structure and tailored elegance. The balance between fruity and savory notes is superb, followed by finely integrated tannins reminiscent of black tea. The texture is silky with a full but linear mid-palate, while the persistence is remarkable, leaving a lasting impression after each sip. In summary, it's an extraordinarily beautiful wine that reflects the authentic essence of its terroir and the meticulous work of the winemaker. Only 2,200 bottles of this masterpiece have been produced, making each sip a unique and precious experience.
