Description

Barolo Via Nuova 2017 Chiara Boschis

Barolo "Via Nuova" by Chiara Boschis Pira E. & Figli is a fine wine from Piedmont, a label that is very representative of the winery as "Via Nuova" was the small piece of land where the winery's vineyards were located, on the new road that connected Barolo to Novello about 100 years ago. It is made from pure Nebbiolo grapes which, in accordance with ancient tradition, come from different crus and are then blended: the crus Terlo and Liste in the commune of Barolo, Gabutti and Baudana in Serralunga d'Alba, Ravera and Mosconi in Monforte d'Alba.

The Pira E. & Figli winery has always been very faithful to its traditions, and its heir Chiara Boschis has tried to respect them by introducing more innovative techniques for a more modern and elegant style of its Barolo wines. More traditional techniques can be seen, for example, in the decision to carry out spontaneous fermentation using only indigenous yeasts in steel tanks with the cap emerged, with daily pumping over and punching down. Refinement takes place both in large oak casks and in lightly toasted French oak barriques for two years.

The wine is then bottled without clarification or filtration and remains in the bottle for a year before release. The Barolo "Via Nuova" Chiara Boschis Pira E. & Figli has a wonderful ruby red colour with garnet highlights. The nose is deep and complex with the typical aromas of the vine which are violet and liquorice, together with earthy notes of undergrowth and roots, sweet red fruits alternate with hints of dried leaves. The taste is robust and very intense, supported by a remarkable tannic texture and a good dose of freshness and elegance.
