Barolo Serralunga d’Alba “Le Righe” 2008 Fontanafredda
Fontanafredda’s Barolo Serralunga d’Alba “Le Righe” 2008 is an authentic expression of the traditional Barolo style, crafted from 100% Nebbiolo sourced from several estate vineyards located in the northern sector of Serralunga d’Alba. This historic area is renowned for its calcareous clay soils rich in grey marl, capable of producing Barolo wines of remarkable structure, longevity and depth. The vineyards, cultivated organically, lie between 300 and 400 meters above sea level with south and southwest exposures, and are harvested in early October to ensure optimal ripeness.
Vinification takes place in stainless steel with a two-week maceration and frequent pump-overs to extract aromatic and phenolic richness. The wine then undergoes an extended maturation: 12 months in French Allier barriques, followed by 12 months in large oak casks (20–30 hl), and an additional year of bottle aging, allowing the wine to develop great balance and complexity.
In the glass, “Le Righe” 2008 displays a ruby-red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet is intense and layered, featuring red berries, dried flowers, oriental spices, vanilla, forest floor and earthy hints. The palate is full-bodied, dry and harmonious, with firm yet elegant tannins and a long, persistent finish. A traditional and austere expression of Serralunga d’Alba, this Barolo pairs beautifully with game, braised beef and hearty Piedmontese cuisine. It also shows excellent aging potential, capable of evolving gracefully for more than a decade.
