Barbera Santo Stefano 2009 Castello di Neive
This Barbera Santo Stefano 2009 from Castello di Neive is a Piedmontese red wine, the answer to those who accused Castello di Neive of 'wasting' part of Santo Stefano to produce Barbera.
Instead, the result is surprising: it is a complex and long-lived version of this grape variety with a great predisposition to ageing. The prized Santo Stefano cru was modified in 2001 when a small portion of the vineyard was replaced with a new one, part Nebbiolo part Barbera. In 2006, the winery decided to plant a new vineyard on the upper part of the hill and allocate the southwest part to Barbera.
The Barbera Santo Stefano 2009 of Castello di Neive ferments in steel and matures in large oak barrels for 8 months. It expresses an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues, while the nose offers aromas of jammy red fruit and spices. The sip is robust, fresh and persistent. An exceptional Barbera!
