Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone 2021 Vietti
Barbera d’Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone by Vietti is a pinnacle expression of Barbera from the heart of Castiglione Falletto, crafted from a single plot of 100-year-old, ungrafted vines growing in the historic Scarrone cru. The poor but mineral-rich limestone-clay soils and very low yields result in a wine of extraordinary depth and complexity.
Grapes are hand-harvested and vinified with extended skin contact and native yeasts, followed by an 18-month aging period in large oak casks and barriques, all designed to preserve authenticity and finesse.
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby color, with an aromatic bouquet of black cherry, ripe plum, tobacco, leather, sweet spices and a chalky minerality. The palate is rich and elegant, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a persistent, salty finish.
This is a Barbera with tremendous aging potential, capable of evolving beautifully over decades. A true benchmark for the varietal, combining power, structure and grace.
