Description

Silice 2015 Silices Viticultores

Silice 2015 is a Spanish red wine produced by Silices Viticultores, made from a blend of 100% Mencia, the main red grape variety in this area. The grapes come from vines on predominantly granite soils.

Vinification, which follows the principles of natural viticulture, takes place without stalks in stainless steel containers. The winery decided not to join the Ribeira Sacra DO, although it complies with all the characteristics. The wine is aged for 6 months in stainless steel with further ageing in used barriques (foudre) for 9 months of first and second passage.

The 2015 Silice shows an intense ruby red colour with a nose of red fruit, mineral notes and Mediterranean scrub. The sip is intense, very fresh with a delicate, persistent tannin.

DENOMINATION: The winery has decided not to join the DO Ribeira Sacra.

REGION: Galicia (Spain)

GRAPES: 100% Mencia

WINE-MAKING: Aged for 6 months in stainless steel plus a further 9 months in used barriques of first and second passage.

The Silice Viticultores winery is one of the most interesting wineries in the Ribeira Sacra, Spain, set up by brothers Juan and Carlos Rodríguez together with Fredi 'Fresquito' Torres with the aim of producing wines of the highest quality while respecting the local terroir. Heroic viticulture, minimal intervention and low yields make the wines of Silice Viticultores unique and very interesting.
