WEINGUT KARTHAUSERHOF

The Karthäuserhof estate is located in the Ruwer valley, on the banks of the Moselle river. The name 'Karthäuser' comes from the order of Bruno of Cologne who founded the Carthusian monastery near Grenoble in the 11th century and expanded into Europe later. The winery is located in an area with a very special terroir, where the soil is composed of Devonian clay slate rich in minerals, which gives the wines typical mineral aromas and great flavor. The heraldic animal sitting in the middle of the coat of arms with a mysterious smile is a Meerkat, a trademark shown on the label since 120 years. The current owner Albert Behler runs after 7 generations the winery, recognized both in Germany and abroad as one of the most reliable and successful German wine producers, receiving in the years many awards and recognitions.
