PIERRE GONON

Pierre Gonon Grandi Bottiglie

Pierre Gonon, genuine wines from Rhone Valley

The Domaine Pierre Gonon is a small family business in the French Rhône Valley with 8 hectares of vineyards located on the best slopes of Mauves, Tournon and Saint-jean de Muzols. The brothers Pierre and Jean, who are passionate about their work, carry out meticulous work in a difficult area that requires the use of horses to plough the land.

Two hectares of vines are planted with Roussanne (20%) and Marsanne (80%), both cultivated in such a way as to exalt their characteristics in the most authentic way: mellow and fragrant Roussanne, structured and persistent Marsanne.

Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, after which the wines are aged in wood for a year and then bottled without filtering. The remaining 6 hectares, which represent the bulk of the production, are planted with Syrah with very low yields, between 30 and 35 hectolitres per hectare, and a plant density of between 6000 and 9000 per hectare.

The vineyard is worked naturally, with a winch or on horseback (the famous Samson), when necessary combined with the use of organic fertilisers. Depending on the vintage, the wines are made from partially destemmed grapes, and are aged between 14 and 16 months in wooden barrels of various sizes. The wines of the Gonon brothers are characterised by simplicity and genuineness and a good ageing potential.
