LE CALLE

Le Calle, biodynamic wines from Tuscany

La Calle is based in Cinigiano in the high Maremma, a few kilometers from Montalcino, inside the Montecucco DOC. Riccardo Catocci has always had an innate sensitivity towards nature and peasant life: in the fields, in the vineyard and among animals. Together with his wife Sabrina, they have been running an organic farm for over 30 years which in addition to the 7 ha of their own vineyards includes: 7 ha of olive groves, 80 ha of agricultural fields for the cultivation of ancient grains, spelled, chickpeas, chick peas , lentils and wheat and legumes to feed the cattle of which the native Maremma cows, donkeys, sheep and Cinta Senese pigs in the wild. It is a reality between sea and mountains because from the terrace of the cellar you can see the Mediterranean Sea to the west and Monte Amiata to the east, we are at 300 meters above sea level and this position allows you to have temperature changes between night and day useful to give wines an incredible freshness and elegance. Riccardo has been working organically for more than 15 years: The vinifications are spontaneous with only native yeasts, fermentation in steel for the white, and cement for the reds, the refinement of the Poggio d’Oro vineyard takes place in large barrels. In the vineyard the varieties we find are: Vermentino, Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo.
