GÉRARD BOULAY

Domaine Gérard Boulay covers 11 hectares under vine in the commune of Chavignon, in Sancerre, in the Loire Valley. The terroir in this area is very special and the vineyards grow on steep slopes to the south, planted on the slopes of the Chavignol kimmeridgian or 'terre blanche' soils, the characteristics of which are evident in Gérard's wines.

Today, the Domaine is led by Gérard Boulay, who practises the manual harvesting of grapes with the help of just four workers who assist him in the vineyards. Gérard's main objective is to express not the grapes but the soil from which they come.

The oldest vineyards in the Domaine were planted in 1972, allowing an average age of over 50 years. Each of Gérard's Chavignol terroirs (Clos de Beaujeu, Mont Damnés, La Côte and Comtesse) undergoes ageing on the lees in used oak. The wines of Domaine Boulay are characterised by intense structure and character. The aromaticity, texture and crystalline purity of his Sauvignon Blancs make Gérard Boulay one of the best producers of Sancerre.
