The Francis Ford Coppola Winery is the dream of the legendary American filmmaker turned into a winemaking icon in Sonoma County, California. Rooted in family tradition and guided by creativity, Coppola’s wines express elegance, balance, and the vibrant Californian spirit. The vineyards stretch across Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, and Russian River Valley, producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel. The renowned Diamond Collection and Director’s Cut labels reflect Coppola’s artistic vision and passion for storytelling through wine.

Francis Ford Coppola is one of the most celebrated figures in world cinema — a visionary director, producer, and screenwriter whose career spans masterpieces crowned with Oscars, Golden Palms, and Golden Lions. Yet behind his cinematic brilliance lies another lifelong passion: winemaking. The roots of this devotion go back to his grandfather Agostino, who made wine in the basement of his New York apartment building using homemade concrete vats. This heritage ignited a deep connection between the Coppola family and the craft of wine.

In the late 1970s, Francis and his wife Eleanor set out to find a small country home in Napa Valley where they could relax with their children and make wine for family gatherings. Their search led them to a piece of American viticultural history: the legendary Inglenook Winery, founded in 1879 by Finnish sea captain Gustave Niebaum. What began as a family project became a decades-long journey to restore the estate and its ancient vines imported from France around 1880. After years of work, the property was reborn — first as Niebaum-Coppola Estate, then Rubicon Estate, and finally back to its historic name, Inglenook.

In 2006, seeking a permanent home for his expanding wine portfolio, Coppola purchased the historic Château Souverain in Sonoma County. This became the Francis Ford Coppola Winery, a true “wine wonderland” — a destination where winemaking meets hospitality, gastronomy, and cinema. Here, storytelling takes liquid form, blending terroir and creativity into an unforgettable experience.

Coppola’s vineyards span the most prestigious subregions of Sonoma: Dry Creek Valley, warm and breezy with gravelly soils perfect for Zinfandel; Alexander Valley, hot and fertile, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot; and Russian River Valley, cooler and fog-kissed, home to elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The winery produces a wide range of wines, from elegant Bordeaux-style blends to approachable and playful bottlings — always faithful to Coppola’s vision of quality, storytelling, and artistry. Among the most celebrated labels are the Diamond Collection, which captures California’s sunny, lively spirit, and the Director’s Cut, which expresses the winemaker’s creative interpretation of each varietal and terroir.

Each bottle from Francis Ford Coppola Winery tells a story — of family, passion, and imagination — where cinema and winemaking merge into a single art form, born under the California sun.
