Domaine Dominique Laurent is one of Burgundy’s most respected and distinctive producers. Founded by Dominique Laurent, who famously transitioned from pastry chef to winemaker, the estate has redefined the role of the modern négociant through meticulous vineyard selection, traditional craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to expressing Burgundy’s finest terroirs. Today, together with his son Jean, he produces elegant, age-worthy wines that rank among the region’s benchmarks.

Domaine Dominique Laurent is one of the most influential names in contemporary Burgundy. Before becoming an internationally acclaimed winemaker, Dominique Laurent was a successful pastry chef in Nuits-Saint-Georges. His lifelong fascination with the great wines of the Côte d’Or eventually led him to leave his original profession and dedicate himself entirely to wine, creating one of Burgundy’s most innovative and respected houses.

In 1988, Dominique pioneered the concept of the “haute couture négociant.” Rather than purchasing finished wines, he carefully selected tiny vineyard parcels and small lots from some of Burgundy’s finest growers, building long-term relationships based on trust and shared quality standards. His vision was to preserve the identity of each individual terroir through meticulous élevage and minimal intervention, producing wines that faithfully reflected their origin.

His success was immediate. International critics and collectors quickly embraced his wines, praising their purity, elegance and remarkable ageing potential. In 2006, Dominique joined forces with his son Jean Laurent to establish Domaine Laurent Père et Fils, acquiring approximately 10 hectares of estate vineyards across some of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, including Meursault, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny, Marsannay and Échezeaux.

Both vineyard and cellar work follow a philosophy centred on authenticity and precision. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness before undergoing spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place in carefully selected French oak barrels, many sourced from Dominique Laurent’s own cooperage and crafted with exceptionally light toasting to enhance rather than mask the wines’ character. Most cuvées are bottled without fining or filtration, preserving their natural texture, aromatic complexity and ageing capacity.

Today, with an annual production of approximately 35,000 bottles, Domaine Dominique Laurent continues to craft wines that capture the diversity and elegance of Burgundy’s finest terroirs. From village appellations to Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, every bottle reflects an uncompromising pursuit of purity, balance and longevity, making the domaine a benchmark for collectors and lovers of great Burgundy wines.
