DOMAINE PARTAGE GILLES BERLIOZ
The Domaine Gilles Berlioz is located in Chignin, Savoy. Not even a two-hour drive from Turin. On our way there, we discovered a terroir of absolute level. An ecosystem of indigenous and international vines that the best producers manage to interpret at their best. Among them, Gilles Berlioz is a myth, a beacon, an example of oenological beauty.
Founded in 1990, the Domaine now has around 5 hectares of property, where white grape vines are the master. Together with his wife Christine, Gilles distinguishes himself from most Savoyard winegrowers. Self-taught (the son of a worker), he has always favoured the maximum expression of terroir on the principle: 'one terroir, one vine, one cuvee'.
If respect for nature and meticulous work, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, are cardinal values, exchange and solidarity are also part of the Domaine's DNA, to the point of renaming the latter in 2016 'Shared Domaine'. Christine and Gilles are nurtured by the interaction with the entire team working at the Domaine and with their winegrower friends: the sharing is born of wealth and this common desire to do better and better, to excel together in order to make the most of the terroirs.
No mechanical intervention in the vineyard, only the horse is used. In the cellar, processing respects the biodynamic philosophy, fermentations are carried out in fibreglass with indigenous yeasts, little sulphur dioxide (only what is necessary). Ageing is also done either in steel or in fibreglass eggs. The wines of Berlioz are now among the elite of great white wines for wine lovers all over the world. The freshness of Gilles Berlioz's whites is astonishing.
In their youth there is exuberance, strength, important aromatic intensity. But the secret is how they age: beautifully! The reds, especially those derived from the Mondeuse grape variety, are also good and exciting.
By now they are in the inner circle of the 'cool' wines, but what we hope is that the concentration of energy and emotion that these wines give is understood at the tasting stage. A great Domaine! Labels made by an artist friend that change every year and give a 'collector's' profile to the wines of Domaine Berlioz.
