DOMAINE DES LAMBRAYS

Domaine des Lambrays

Domaine des Lambrays, icona di Morey-Saint-Denis

The Domaine des Lambrays was founded in 1363, but it was only in 1981 that the Clos des Lambrays climat was finally promoted to Grand Cru status. The estate was bought in 1996 by the Freune family and since then the company has always sought to increase the quality of its production. Today, with its 8.8 hectares, Domaine des Lambrays owns the largest Grand Cru Monopole parcel in Burgundy.

In addition to the Grand Cru itself, the Domaine also owns premier cru vines and Village vineyards in Morey, and since 1993 two premier cru vineyards in Puligny Montrachet, les Folatières and Clos du Cailleret, purchased from Domaine Chartron. The management of the vineyards has been entrusted since 1979 to oenologist Thierry Brouin, and is based almost entirely on organic farming principles, without chemical herbicides and using horse-drawn ploughing. The grapes are not destemmed and in the cellar, the quantity of new oak is limited (about 50% for the grand crus).

The most prestigious wines are made from old vines, while the products of the younger vines are downgraded to Morey St Denis 1er cru, which are made together with grapes from other small estates in La Riotte and Le Village. The Domaine des Lambrays produces a range of wines of great balance, power and finesse that fully live up to their Grand Cru status.
