Tenuta Valle dell’Acate – “Il Moro” Nero d’Avola 2012 Magnum
“Il Moro” Nero d’Avola 2012 Magnum by Valle dell’Acate is one of the most expressive and terroir-driven interpretations of Sicily’s most important native grape variety. It originates from Sicilia Orientale, in the Biddine Soprana and Sottana vineyards (Acate, Ragusa), an area defined by dark, mineral-rich soils that shape the wine’s depth and structure.
The vineyards are trained in vertical trellis (cordone speronato) with a density of around 5,000 vines per hectare, and a controlled yield of 5,800 kg/ha, ensuring concentration and high-quality fruit. The terroir, known as “Terra Nera”, sits at about 120 meters above sea level and features compact, dark soils with small stones that enhance the wine’s mineral backbone.
Made from 100% Nero d’Avola, the wine undergoes a carefully managed vinification process, followed by a maturation that combines oak aging, stainless steel and bottle refinement for at least 9–12 months, allowing it to develop complexity while maintaining varietal identity.
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby red color with garnet reflections, indicating elegant evolution. The nose is rich and layered, with aromas of morello cherry, raspberry and red berries, followed by warm spice notes and hints of dark chocolate, typical of high-quality Nero d’Avola from this area.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, warm and elegant, with a solid structure supported by smooth and well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and persistent, with recurring fruity and spicy notes that highlight its complexity.
It pairs beautifully with traditional Sicilian meat dishes, such as Nebrodi black pig, game, roasts and grilled meats, and is highly recommended with aged Ragusano DOP cheese, which enhances its depth and structure.
A refined and powerful Nero d’Avola, combining strength, elegance and territorial identity, designed for lovers of structured and age-worthy red wines.
