The Nebbiolo d’Alba Arione 2022 by Giacomo Conterno stands as one of the most precise and characterful interpretations of this prestigious cru located in the southernmost area of Roddino. It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grown on calcareous soils at around 400 meters above sea level—an environment that lends the grapes remarkable aromatic purity, tension and finesse. True to Conterno’s philosophy, the winemaking process is meticulous: fermentation in wooden vats, long maceration of about three weeks, and 36 months of ageing in large oak casks, a method that elevates the wine’s structure without overshadowing its varietal identity.
In the glass it shows a bright ruby red colour with garnet nuances. The aromatic profile is layered and expressive, offering scents of ripe cherry, red berries, violet, forest floor, followed by touches of balsamic herbs, oriental spices and a hint of menthol. The palate reveals its full nobility: warm and enveloping at first, supported by fine, austere tannins that reflect the best wines from Serralunga. A long, persistent mineral backbone leads to a fresh, vertical finish that cleanses the palate and invites another sip.
