Santadi Latinia Vino da Uve Stramature
Latinia by Santadi is a refined and expressive sweet wine that showcases one of the most elegant interpretations of winemaking in Sulcis, southwestern Sardinia. It is produced from native white grape varieties of the region, grown in traditional low bush-trained vineyards (alberello system), which ensure concentration and resilience in a warm Mediterranean climate.
The soils are predominantly sandy and loose, a key factor in shaping the wine’s finesse and aromatic clarity. The warm, windy conditions of Sulcis allow for slow and complete ripening, essential for producing wines from overripe grapes.
Harvest takes place between late September and late October, but not all at once. Grapes are picked in multiple stages, selecting only clusters that have reached optimal natural overripeness on the vine. This careful selection results in highly concentrated fruit with elevated sugar levels and intense aromatic potential.
In the winery, the must—rich in natural sugars after skin separation—is fermented in stainless steel tanks. Due to its high density, fermentation progresses slowly and is naturally inhibited, preserving balance between sweetness and freshness. The wine then matures for several months in French oak barriques, adding complexity and depth without overpowering its fruit character.
In the glass, Latinia displays a deep, luminous amber color, reflecting its richness and evolution. The nose is intense and layered, with aromas of honey, caramel, vanilla sugar and cloves, enriched by subtle spicy undertones.
On the palate, it is sweet, smooth and beautifully balanced, with acidity providing freshness and preventing any sense of heaviness. The structure is elegant and the finish is long and persistent, with lingering notes of orange blossom and sweet spices.
A highly versatile wine for food pairing, it excels with desserts such as chocolate cake and dry pastries, pairs wonderfully with blue cheeses, and even surprises with smoked fish, where its sweetness creates an elegant contrast.
A sophisticated Sardinian sweet wine that combines tradition, aromatic richness and perfect balance, ideal both as a dessert wine and a meditation wine.
