Champagne Special Cuvée Magnum Bollinger
The Champagne Special Cuvée Magnum from Bollinger embodies the purest essence of the maison’s identity, a symbol of excellence that has represented the estate since its creation in 1911. Conceived on the advice of a British agent and refined over generations, this cuvée expresses the winery’s philosophy: structure, complexity, elegance and an unwavering commitment to quality. The result is an iconic Champagne, universally regarded as one of the benchmarks in its category.
Special Cuvée is crafted through a meticulous blend of base wines from the latest harvest and a significant proportion of reserve wines, some aged in magnums for over 15 years in the historic cellars of Aÿ. This rare practice imparts a depth and aromatic richness that are unmistakably Bollinger. The cuvée combines Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier sourced largely from prestigious crus across Champagne, with Pinot Noir playing a leading role in defining structure and personality. After the second fermentation, the wine is aged for 36 months on the lees, far beyond the appellation’s minimum requirements, contributing to its creamy texture and layered complexity.
In the glass, it displays an elegant golden colour, illuminated by a stream of extremely fine bubbles. The nose opens with ripe fruit, delicate spices, candied citrus, baked apple, brioche and subtle oxidative hints typical of the Bollinger style. The palate is rich and enveloping yet wonderfully balanced by lively freshness, offering notes of pear, walnut, dried fruit, subtle spices and a refined mineral trace. The finish is long, harmonious and profoundly expressive.
The Magnum format enhances the wine’s ageing potential, allowing for a slower evolution and an even more refined aromatic profile. A magnificent Champagne, perfect for toasts, fine dining or moments of pure pleasure, representing Bollinger’s signature at its finest.
