Hermitage Rouge "Farconnet" 2018 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Sélection
Hermitage Rouge Farconnet 2018 is a fine red wine produced by Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Sélection. It is part of Jean-Louis Chave's second selection of wines, a range that includes bottles made from grapes that are not owned by the Domaine but excellent value for money. 'Farconnet' comes from the name of a nobleman from whom Jean-Louis' great-grandfather bought the prestigious Bessards plot.
It is made from 100% Syrah grapes from three different parts of the Hermitage: most come from Diognières, which is at the base of the hill, on alluvial soil with lots of small pebbles that give the wine a spicy note. The next parcel is Péleat, which is located above Diognières and is composed of more sand and limestone in the clay that lend elegance to the wine. Finally, Greffieux is located at the base of Le Méal on the hill and its soil is made up of river stones brought by glaciers that give structure to the wine.
The Hermitage Rouge Farconnet 2018 ferments in steel tanks and tonneaux and matures in barriques for 18-24 months. It is a full-bodied, drinkable northern Rhône red with a distinctive spicy nose and a remarkable predisposition to ageing.
