Volnay 1er Cru 2017 is a red wine from Burgundy among the most important and unobtainable wines of the world, it is produced by Domaine Coche Dury with grapes coming from two different 1er Cru vineyards, Taillepieds and Clos des Chênes. It is a majestic wine produced by a Domaine which is considered legendary among wine lovers, even though it is known in the world for its great whites, Domaine Coche Dury also bottles six exquisite Pinot Noirs.
The particularity of this Domaine, an absolute rarity in Bourgogne, is that it does not plant clones of any kind, facing agriculture as a challenge, as it used to be done in the past. In the winery the vinifications are long and traditional with a long maceration on the lees, this extra time on the lees prevents oxidation and works in tandem with the formidable freshness its grapes achieve.
The 2017 Volnay 1er Cru shows in the glass a beautiful bright ruby red color accompanied by an important bouquet of berries, dark chocolate, underbrush, spices and peonies. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a more reserved profile than other domaine reds this year, its deep core of savory fruit framed by dusty tannins and lively acids.
