TORTOCHOT

The Domaine Tortochot is based in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits.

The wine origins of the Tortochot family date back to the early '900 when Paul Tortochot cultivated grapes for the production of fine wines. Felix, Paul's son, married Louise Liébaut of Morey-St-Denys and the Tortochot family acquired dowries of vine parcels, in turn inherited from Gabriel, father of the current owner Chantal Tortochot. Gabriel Tortochot was a fervent defender of the wines of Burgundy, in particular through his actions as president of the "Syndicat Viticole de Gevrey-Chambertin" and his role in the "Comité National de L'INAO".

His strong passion for the Terroir was passed on to his two daughters, Brigitte and Chantal Tortochot, who cultivate and vinify with the utmost respect for the traditions of Burgundy.

The vineyard management is classic with low and densely planted vines. In the vineyard organic farming is practiced: the only fertilizers given to the soil are biodynamic preparations.

The harvest is of the manual type, the bunches are completely de-stemmed. In the cellar the grapes are pressed in order to free the juice and encourage fermentation activated only by indigenous yeasts, the cold pre-fermentative maceration lasts 4 or 5 days; the temperatures are controlled so that they do not exceed 32 °.

Aging takes place in 100% new barrels for Grands Crus, 50% for Premier Cru and 25% for Village.

The current wines of Chantal Tortochot are pure passion for the palate!
