Lumiere des Senses Pinot D'Aunis 2018 Robinot
"Lumiere des Senses" is a natural wine produced by Jean-Pierre Robinot. Vigneron alternative and visionary, far from fashions, deeply in love with his territory, the Loire. He is regarded as a spiritual guide throughout France because he was the first to set up a natural wine shop in Paris before returning to Loire to start his wine production. In this wonderful territory, the protagonist is the Pineau d'Aunis, a car that offers elegant, sublime and spicy wines, and which, despite the name, has nothing to do with the mobile Pinot family. The vines of the "Lumiere des Sense" wine are daughters of the biodynamic forces that vitalize the red, clayey and limestone territory, typical of Jasnieres. In force Jean-Pierre follows a sensitive and respectful approach, prohibiting the use of any chemical and synthetic product. In the cellar the philosophy is the same: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, mass maceration on the skins and absence of invasive processes, such as filtration, clarification or addition of sulphites. The aging lasts 24 months in used wooden barrels, carefully preserved in the cellar carved into the rock. Robinot's "Lumiere des Sense" is an elegant deep and dark ruby red dress, edged with garnet reflections. The nose deserves more than a taste, let it move casually in the glass because it needs to breathe to make itself known. Shy and reserved, but when he lets himself go to conquer its refined aromas of rhubarb, licorice, tamarind, blueberries and black currants. Tasting, despite the gustatory tension, shows all its elegance and refinement, subtle and delicate, transmitted a deep and multifaceted personality. An enchanting jewel of the Loire!
REGION: Loire Valley (France)
GRAPES: 100% Pineau d'Aunis
VINIFICATION: Alcoholic fermentation in steel with indigenous yeasts. No filtration, clarification and addition of sulphites. 24 months aging in old wooden barrels stored in the cellar dug into the mother rock Natural wines derived from the cultivation of vines treated with copper and sulfur (in limited quantities), compost of biodynamic and natural origin, respecting the growth and maturation cycles strictly dictated by nature, in order to obtain naturally healthy, strong and capable of self-defense against parasites. As for winemaking, natural wines are brought to maturity without the addition of other supporting chemicals or selected yeasts, that the spontaneous maceration of sugar and sulphites of the grapes takes place in a completely natural way.
Natural Wines: the philosophy behind winemaking
Natural wine does not mean only without the addition of sulphites, it means working according to the ancient winemaking traditions with sulfur and copper in the vineyard, based on the effort of manual labor, the least interventionist activities possible letting the cycles of Nature do most of the work up to vinification of grape juice as it is, without any substances if not its own. The result of all this production philosophy is natural wine, a non-standardized wine that best expresses its identity, its terroir and its most intrinsic characteristics. Natural wines are much more difficult to produce than wines to which we are traditionally accustomed, because when there is no type of help from the use of balancing substances and support for winemaking, wine cannot be a way of putting: or is it good or bad. Natural wine was born as the commitment of the natural artisan winemakers to raise their product to the standardization of the taste and identity of the wine and the vineyard which, thanks to the widespread use of chemistry and new technologies, now leads to products with always the same flavors, regardless of the production area or the type of cultivation used. Biodynamic wine or natural wine, on the other hand, tends to enhance its identity, its essence, diversifying itself thanks to the exclusive organoleptic qualities that the precise terroir of belonging provides to the host grapes and which can only be expressed thanks to activities that do not intervene on the cultivation and winemaking processes.
