Meursault
Meursault, one of the best white wines of Burgundy
Meursault is the largest commune of Cóte de Beaune, one of the most pleasant villages of all Bourgogne: inhabited by 1600 people, its streets are entirely surrounded by walls.
It is here that are produced some of the best white wines of the world, prestigious labels contended by wine lovers from every part of the globe.
The commune of Meursault has 360 hectares of vineyards at altitudes ranging from 260 to 300 meters above sea level, with 17 Premier Cru and incredibly no Grand Cru even though vineyards such as Goutte d'Or, Perrières or Clos des Perrières, qualitatively speaking, are to all intents and purposes Grand Crus.
The village can be ideally divided in four areas having precise characteristics: the first one, to the north, bordering the commune of Volnay, is famous for the production of red wines made of Pinot Noir, which represents an exception for this territory and in fact even though it is under the jurisdiction of Meursault, wines are labeled under the name of Volnay.
In this northern area there are two climats classified as Premier Cru, Les Cras and Les Caillerets, which are located in a soil of marls mainly made of limestone and give life to wines of extreme elegance and finesse, as well as many village classified cru from which come mineral and refined wines, such as Les Tesson, Les Chevaliéres, Luchets and Les Rougeots.
The third area is the one which goes from the border of Auxey Duresses to the border of Blagny, here soils are mainly calcareous and the wines produced here are characterized by minerality, among the most important climats there are Premier Cru Blagny, Les Narvaux, Les Tillets, Les Cloux and Les Vireuils.
The last area which is located south from the commune, has the most important and famous Premier Cru of the whole appellation, such as Porousot, Gouttes d'Or, Charmes, Genevrieres and Perrieres.
