Carmignano 2018 Fattoria di Bacchereto
Carmignano 2018 is a red wine from Tuscany produced using biodynamic methods by Fattoria di Bacchereto. It is a wine with a strong personality and territoriality, which stems from an ancient tradition in the Prato area of producing wine from a blend of Sangiovese plus other Bordeaux grape varieties. It is in fact obtained from a blend with a higher percentage of Sangiovese, Canaiolo nero and Cabernet Sauvignon, an international vine but one that has been present in the area for centuries.
The ageing in large casks allows the wine to acquire the right balance, preserving the primary aromas of the ripe grapes, enriched by vegetable nuances and elegant tertiary aromas. The grapes come from 20-year-old vines cultivated according to biodynamic principles and situated at an altitude of about 250 metres on soils characterised by the presence of schist, sandstone and clay. Fermentation takes place in cement with spontaneous yeasts and a couple of weeks' maceration on the skins. The wine then matures for 12-18 months in 350-litre Allier oak casks and is refined for a further 6 months in the bottle.
The Carmignano 2018 shows an intense ruby red colour, while the nose expresses aromas of ripe red fruit, vegetal notes of green pepper, liquorice, leather, tobacco and sweet spices. The sip is intense, rich, with lively tannins and a fresh and very persistent finish.
