Description

Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2017 Domaine Pierre Damoy

Chambertin Clos de Beze from Domaine Pierre Damoy is one of the greatest expressions of the great wines produced in the renowned Gevrey-Chambertin area of northern Burgundy. This wine is produced exclusively with Pinot Noir grapes coming from a single and precious plot located in the Clos de Beze, a 5.4 hectare vineyard which represents one of the most prestigious terroirs in the whole of Burgundy.

The Clos de Beze terroir is characterized by a clayey-marly soil rich in limestone, which gives the wine extraordinary elegance and complexity. The vines, which are between 60 and 90 years old, are grown according to sustainable viticulture principles. Pierre Damoy, custodian of this extraordinary viticultural heritage, adopts environmentally friendly agricultural practices, avoiding the use of herbicides and making economical use of copper. The care and attention dedicated to the vineyard is reflected in the quality of the grapes harvested, which represent the result of careful selection both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

The vinification of Chambertin Clos de Beze follows an artisanal and traditional approach. After careful destemming, the grapes undergo a long cold maceration to extract as much as possible of the fine aromas and noble tannins present in the skin. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in oak vats, which allow a slow and natural evolution of the wine. Subsequently, the wine is aged in new oak barrels, which gives a delicate integration of the wood to the characteristics of the terroir and the complexity of the wine. The aging in wood can last from 14 to 18 months, depending on the vintage.

The Chambertin Clos de Beze from Domaine Pierre Damoy is a wine of extraordinary beauty and power. On the nose, it reveals a complex web of aromas ranging from ripe red and black fruits to sweet spices, with elegant floral notes that intertwine harmoniously. In the mouth, the wine stands out for its powerful structure, with silky tannins and a refined consistency. The concentrated and focused flavors combine with a vibrant freshness and a long persistence, which leaves the palate enveloped in mineral sensations.

PIERRE DAMOY

Domaine Pierre Damoy is an absolute standout on the Gevrey-Chambertin scene, with a 100-year history behind it that has seen five successive generations at the helm of the family winery. Currently, it is Pierre, grandson of the namesake progenitor, who leads this reality with passion and expertise.

The real strength of Domaine Pierre Damoy lies in having the largest plots within the renowned cru Clos de Bèze, a good 5.4 hectares. The grapes from these over-seventy-year-old vineyards give rise to Barolos with the structural power typical of the appellation, ennobled, however, by excellent concentration, intensity and silkiness.

In the vineyard Pierre follows the principles of sustainable viticulture and does not intervene except for the minimum necessary in the cellar, to preserve the soul of each parcel. The musts ferment separately,Aging then about 15 months in up to 80% new barriques.
