Barolo Massara 2015 Magnum Castello di Verduno
Castello di Verduno's Barolo Massara is a DOCG red wine produced in the Barolo area of Piedmont. Nebbiolo grapes from the Massara vineyard, located in the municipality of Verduno, are used for its production. This is a vineyard with limestone-clay soils facing southwest. The grapes are vinified according to the traditional Barolo technique, with a maceration of about 4 weeks followed by aging in Slavonian oak barrels for at least 3 years.
On the nose, Barolo Massara has intense aromas of red fruits such as raspberries and cherries, accompanied by floral hints of dog rose and violets. More complex aromas of licorice, leather, tobacco and underbrush also develop over time. On the palate it is a powerful wine with robust tannins and good acidity, giving it a long-lived structure. The flavors echo the notes of the nose, with mineral sensations due to the limestone soil. The finish is long and persistent.
Thanks to the excellent exposure of the vineyard and the perfect climatic conditions of the area, Barolo Massara manages to fully express the character of Nebbiolo and the complexity of Verduno's terroir. It is a wine that needs several years of aging to reach its peak and can easily exceed 15-20 years of longevity.
