The Carlo Gnavi Winery is a historic estate based in Caluso, in the heart of Piedmont’s Canavese area, deeply tied to the native Erbaluce grape. Founded in the late 19th century, it is now led by Carlo Gnavi, heir to a long family winemaking tradition. His wines — Erbaluce di Caluso, Caluso Passito, and Metodo Classico sparkling wines — reflect craftsmanship, elegance, and a strong bond with the land. Each bottle tells the story of a family that has become a symbol of Canavese viticulture.

The Carlo Gnavi Winery is one of the most authentic and historic estates in Caluso, located in Piedmont’s Canavese area, a region famed for its noble white wine, Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG. The Gnavi family’s history dates back to the late 19th century, when the first generation founded a small family business of cartwrights, dedicated to both transport and viticulture. Over time, their passion for the land and their commitment to quality naturally evolved into a full-fledged winemaking activity.

It was Cavaliere Giovanni Gnavi who gave birth to the modern winery. In the 1950s, he began to bottle and sell his wines, quickly earning recognition for their quality and authenticity. The Gnavi name soon became synonymous with excellence, and the winery established itself as one of the most respected producers of Caluso Passito, the emblematic sweet wine of the region.

During the 1990s, the next generation — Carlo and Guglielmo Gnavi — took over, merging tradition and innovation. They introduced new expressions of Erbaluce, refining the production methods while preserving the original artisanal spirit of the winery. Today, Carlo Gnavi, the sole heir and guardian of his father’s legacy, leads the estate alongside his nephew Giorgio, personally overseeing each phase of cultivation and vinification.

The Gnavi family’s wines represent the many faces of the Erbaluce grape, a versatile variety capable of producing both fresh, mineral-driven whites and complex, age-worthy wines. The range includes the Erbaluce di Caluso Cav. Giovanni, a classic and vibrant expression, the Caluso Passito Revej, rich and emotional, and the Erbaluce di Caluso Spumante Metodo Classico Turbante, an innovative take on the traditional grape. Other notable labels include the Caluso Vigna Crava, a cru from the historic Crava vineyard (known locally as “Bric di Caluso”), the Vermouth di Torino Superiore Don Guglielmo 1918, and the Petronilla, a Metodo Classico Rosé made from native Canavese red grapes.

Today, Carlo Gnavi Winery stands as a benchmark for authentic, territorial, and artisanal wines, celebrating the true essence of Erbaluce and its remarkable ability to convey minerality, freshness, and emotion. Each bottle is a tribute to the land of Caluso and to a family legacy built on dedication, craftsmanship, and love for wine.
