SYLVAIN CATHIARD

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard wine on sale online on Grandi BottiglieDomaine Sylvain Cathiard, one of the most promising wineries of all Bourgogne

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard has ancient origins, it was established in 1930 by Sylvain's grandfather, a foundling from Savoie who arrived in Bourgogne and started working at Domaine de la Romanée Conti first and at Domaine Lamarche later, before buying some vineyard plots which his son André Cathiard started vinifying and bottling.

In due time Sylvain started working with his father, but because of disagreements with his father he created his small domaine independently, buying grapes from many récoltants, until his father retired in 1995 when he could finally take over the family vineyards. In 2006 he was joined by his son Sébastien and a new spacious winery is currently under construction.

Today the Domaine owns about 7 hectares of vineyards in the villages of Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny as well as small estates in Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-St-Vivant. A recent addition (since 2006) to the range is Nuits-St-Georges Aux Thorey.

The philosophy at work of Sylvain and Sebastien aims at the least possible intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar, without altering the wine which is the fruit of nature.

The result is identity wines, perfect expressions of the terroir of origin which fully reflect the character of father and son. Generation after generation, vintage after vintage Cathiard wines are imposing themselves on the international scene thanks to their very high quality level. The few bottles produced soon become unobtainable and are contended by wine lovers from all over the world.
