Description

Turriga 2010 Argiolas

Turriga 2010 is a red wine produced by Argiolas, probably the most famous wine of Sardinia, an excellent interpretation of the main red grape variety of the region: Cannonau. This wine is the result of the combination of the winery's tradition and the skill of winemaker Giacomo Tanchis, the man who oversaw the production of other Italian wine monuments such as Sassicaia and Tignanello.

It is obtained from a blend of Cannonau 85%, Carignano 5%, Bovale 5%, Malvasia Nera 5%, and unlike the Bordeaux blends that vary from year to year, the percentage of the various vines that give life to Turriga always remains the same, although great attention is paid to always obtain the highest quality of grapes and making different vinifications according to the different types of grapes.

The vines, all rigorously autochthonous, stand on calcareous soils rich in stones and pebbles, at an altitude of about 230 m above sea level where the vines are exposed to a sunny Mediterranean microclimate and sea breezes. Fermentation takes place in steel containers where the wine macerates on its skins for a period of 16 to 18 months. Maturation ends in new French oak barriques where it remains for almost 24 months before a further 12 months in the bottle.

The Turriga 2010 of Argiolas shows a beautiful garnet red colour. The nose expresses complex and evolved scents of ripe fruit in jam and in alcohol, together with spicy aromas, herbs and Mediterranean notes, then toasted notes of cocoa, tobacco and coffee and a balsamic touch. The sip is powerful and expressive, warm, round and enveloping with a very persistent finish.
