JEAN PHILIPPE PADIE'

Jean Philippe Padiè's company is located in Calce, in the Agly valley, a few km east of Perpignan, in the French region of Languidoc-Roussilon.

It is here that Jean Philippe in 2003 decides to put down roots to start his business, after having worked for years at Mas Amiel and Gauby's. The terroir is very suitable for the cultivation of vines, because the heat of the Catalan hinterland is mitigated by the influence of the sea and the winds.

From the initial 6 ha, the company now has 15 ha, divided into 30 plots. Certified organic since 2007, their production follows the principles of Biodynamic agriculture. According to this, there is no use of chemical treatments, only sulfur and herbal medicine. In the cellar there are three people who work there: Jean Philippe, Kikito and Lorelei, all animated by the same passion.

The practices in the cellar are sweet and empirical: delicate peeling, spontaneous fermentations based on indigenous yeasts, homeopathic use of sulphites, all with the support of the lunar calendar. Medium-small concrete tanks are used for fermentation.

The careful work in the vineyard and in the cellar, the minimal interventions and respect for the terroir, enhance the complexity of the vines that grow on a limestone, shale and marl soil. The wines come from native vines such as Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Maccabeu, white Grenache and gray Grenache.

Jean Philippe speaks with love and dedication of his land, of his work, of his wines which are precise, greedy and playful.
