DOMAINE LEON BARRAL

Barral Grandi Bottiglie

Domaine Leon Barral, authentic wines from Laguedoc-Roussilon

Domaine de Leon Barral is a French winery in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The winery has been run by the Barral family for generations and is a real reference point for the area in the field of sustainable viticulture that fully respects the terroir. Since 1990, it has been run by Didier Barral, a talented vigneron who carries out traditional work, sensitive to the vines that are cultivated according to biodynamic principles, out of full respect for nature.

A philosophy that goes beyond organic and biodynamic thinking but represents a real choice of life, which every year rewards the winery with products with a strong territorial identity that enjoy great success. The Domaine Leon Barral vineyard comprises about 25 hectares of vines surrounded by a large number of plants and animals, such as cows and black Bigorre pigs. The land, made up of steep shale and slate soils, is cultivated exclusively with organic fertilisers, with no chemicals used. The vines, which are between 30 and 80 years old and trained on the Gobelet system, are home to the typical local grapes, namely Cinsault, Syrah, Carignan, Grenache, Mourvedre, Terret Blanc, Terret Girs, Viognier and Russane.

In the cellar, alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously in cement vats using only indigenous yeasts, malolactic fermentation is completed in wood and the wine is aged in barriques, without filtration or clarification and with a negligible addition of sulphites. Leon Barral wines are fresh, dynamic and full of character and authentically express the terroir of Languedoc-Roussillon.
