Château Pontet-Canet, biodynamich wines from Bordeaux

Château Pontet-Canet is a historic Bordeaux winery that was acquired by Jean-François de Pontet in 1725, who gave his name to the land of Canet. This Chateau stands on soil composed of quaternary gravel and is a fifth Grand Cru Classé Pauillac from the prestigious 1855 list.

The vineyard covers about 80 hectares, with an average age of 45 years, and production is around 333 barrels per year depending on the vintage, or 400,000 bottles for an average yield per hectare of 3,750 litres. The main grape varieties grown are the traditional ones of the Bordeaux region: Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot Noir 33%, Cabernet Franc 5% and Petit Verdot 2%.

The entire harvest is done by hand and the wine is aged entirely in barriques, 60% of which are new for 15 to 20 months depending on the vintage before bottling. Organic and biodynamic farming principles are followed both in the vineyard and in the cellar, and the company has become a real reference point for biodynamic wines in the Pauillac appellation, in Bordeaux.
