Benanti, the history of Etna wineson sell online on Grandi BottiglieBenanti winery, the history of Etna wines

The history of the Benanti winery began at the end of the 19th century, when Giuseppe Benanti began producing wine on the slopes of Etna, in an old family farmhouse.

In 1988, his namesake nephew founded what is now the family business under the name Tenuta di Castiglione, which only ten years later became Cantina Benanti, the first company to have land on all sides of the Sicilian volcano.

The philosophy and objective of the company is to enhance the ancient native Sicilian vines, such as Carricante, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, the absolute protagonists of the estate's Etna wines.

Over the years Giuseppe's work has been a real point of reference not only for Etnean production but also for the entire production of Sicilian wines brought to international prominence.

Benanti wines stand out for their strong personality and their ability to capture the best of the unique territory from which they originate. The family owns 18 hectares of vineyards and rents another 10, spread over all the slopes of Etna, with vines that can reach 110 years of age.

The great respect for the environment and nature, the organic systems and the minimal interventions both in the vineyard and in the cellar, allow the Benanti family to produce unique wines, known all over the world.
